SE3 was the prime consultant providing construction management services for this vital infrastructure project which is an essential component for the reconstruction and widening of Illinois Tollway’s $4B Central Tri-State (I-294) reconstruction and widening program. Replacement of the Archer bridges over I-294 was critical to maintain an aggressive schedule necessary for the reconstruction and widening of I-294 at that location. Our team was responsible for all on-site construction observation, the review of the overall work layout, all structural and roadway design related issues, materials testing, approving pay estimates and change orders, resolving utility conflicts, mitigating schedule issues, and record documentation. This project included reconstruction of IDOT bridges on Archer Avenue therefore requiring coordination with IDOT on permits, maintenance of traffic, and lighting.

Our team also worked with Cook County and the Village of Justise to ensure proposed future improvements were coordinated properly. Tracking cost participation between IDOT and the Tollway was important for the success of this project.

Key Project Elements:

  • Demolition and reconstruction of the westbound and eastbound Archer Avenue bridges over the Central Tri-State
  • Replacement of two IDOT bridge structures which allow the Tollway bridges to be built off alignment while maintaining Archer Avenue traffic

  • Retaining and Noise abatement wall construction
  • New lighting, drainage, and barrier walls
  • Embankment placement and full depth pavement construction
