SE3’s role on the project was to serve as Lead Drainage Engineer where we developed drainage plans for the widening and reconstruction of Richards Street which crosses under I-80 and over Hickory Creek. Our team developed plans for storm sewer improvements along Briggs Street. The Richards Street Interchange was reconfigured, and SE3 provided calculations for the new configuration that included the removal and replacement of the existing Richards Street Bridge, reconstruction of the entrance and exit ramps, and reconstruction of the I-80 bridge over Hickory Creek.
- As part of this project, SE3 was required to prepare calculations for the proposed inlets and storm sewer along I-80 which included inlet spacing calculations and storm sewer capacity calculations utilizing the latest rainfall data. SE3 designed a detention basin for this project that was designed to mitigate runoff generated by the reconfiguration of the interchange.
- SE3 also prepared compensatory storage calculations that was necessary in order to account for the larger sizes of the proposed bridge piers, compared to the existing ones. A storm sewer system was proposed as the compensatory storage area that will mitigate any upstream increases in the Base Flood Elevation as a result of the new bridge construction.
- SE3 designed three culverts beneath I-80. For each of the culverts, SE3 determined the hydrology by delineating basins and Tc paths which enabled SE3 to model the proposed culverts. The culverts were designed to meet all applicable IDOT Criteria contained within the IDOT Drainage Manual.
