SE3 completed a traffic study along Wells Branch Parkway for Travis County, TX. The study examined accident frequency and potential countermeasures, capacity analysis and signal coordination, sight distance, and possible geometric improvements. The accident diagrams for each significant intersection were developed from accident reports from the City of Austin through the survey. To determine effectiveness, travel time studies were conducted, and each intersection was observed on-site for a significant period to identify potential causes of accidents.
A Synchro analysis was performed on the entire 11 intersection corridor. The analysis performed included the AM, Midday, PM, and Saturday peaks and was studied for the existing, optimized, and future traffic conditions. The corridor analysis was updated with potential mitigation measures.
The final report identified various countermeasures to mitigate high accident locations and outlined possible capacity improvements.
